I think I’m turning into Mighty Kymm, as I have noticed that watching flash mob videos tends to make me get choked up a little. I don’t know why. At first I thought it was because I just love the musical numbers in The Sound of Music, but then it happened again and again, even during that episode of Modern Family and I even had actual tears form when I watched the Prop 8 flash mob (mostly because I imagined them practicing it ahead of time, despite the possibility that it wouldn’t be overturned, although really they could have just used it as a protest flash mob in that case). The people just look so happy and so proud of themselves. It’s the magic of a group of random individuals pulling it off, having made so much effort and stepped outside of their comfort zone just for four minutes of uninterrupted joy. Even though I know the flash is going to happen and that the bystanders are going to be standing there, amazed and transfixed, I still get goosebumps when the tipping point occurs, when it becomes clear that there is a greater force at work here in this mall food court or Belgian train station.
This morning, I was surfing and found this, via Kim, and now I am officially a full blown sap, because I had actual tears streaming down my face. Multiples. It’s just gorgeous. Perfection. And while I’m certain that not everyone reacts to chorales the way that I do (I’m still embarrassed about the St. Paul’s Cathedral Incident), consider this your warning. And if you’re not a sap like me, it’s still a very joyful holiday break for a slow December Friday (and totally safe for work).

Ha! I love the fact that now weeping immediately at something that a lot of people don’t even think is sad is now thought of in some circles as “pulling a Kymm”.
Oh, good, it’s not just me 🙂 Our local news showed this the other night and I was crying like someone stole my candy!
So, I’ve seen this all over facebook for weeks, but have never taken the time to click on it and watch. Thanks for posting this so I FINALLY watched. Don’t feel bad, I teared up and I DON’T cry at anything, EVER! This piece of music is just so beautiful and inspiring and I think it brings that out in us. All I could think was….I would DIE before I performed in a food court like that. I’m such a nerd, and I get wierded out UNLESS I’m actually on stage or in a show performing. So kudos to all of them.
There are totally some people in the crowd pulling Kymm’s as well.
I love these Flash Mobs of the Hallelujah Chorus! I really hope to get caught in one someday and have the opportunity to sing along.

Unnecessarily snotty comment: I hate that people consider the Hallelujah Chorus a Christmas tune because, you know, it’s totally not.
Relevant comment: I get super teary-eyed during everything ever. Particularly during teamwork type things. Like Flash Mobs. I keep hoping that because I live in NYC my odds of seeing one are greater. I guess I need to spend more time hanging around Grand Central or Union Square!
We had ourselves a Handel flash mob at the mall just yesterday. I was pissed off because I had to work and missed it, but yours was nice, too.

Saw your tweet on peeling hard boiled eggs. I have the secret (besides the one advising you to use old? eggs). A friend told me about this years ago and it works like a charm every.single.time.
Put the eggs in the freezer for a bit – I use large eggs and leave them in about 15 minutes. The cold shrinks the egg away from the shell! I bring them to a boil, turn off the heat and put a lid on the pan and leave them for another 10 minutes. Dump the hot water, bang them around in the pan a little to crack the shells some – make sure all of them get cracked and cover them with cold water.
In 10 minutes or so – PERFECTLY EASY TO PEEL EGGS. WIth none of that green nonsense around the yolk, either.
