The day I’ve dreaded for a long time has come.
As soon as I saw his face on the opening moments of The Today Show, I started murmuring “No no no no no nononononono…” but yes.
Yes.
A few hours ago, the world lost a little bit of warmth.
Fred McFeeley Rogers passed away early this morning.
I had a small goal in life that I never really vocalized to anyone. I wanted to get a hug from Mister Rogers. He was a hugger, that one. And this morning, as I drove to work with tears still in my eyes (you try to put make up on when you’re wailing, you just try it), every billboard reminded me of Mister Rogers.
Aim High.
Wait until you see what we’ve got in store for you!
There’s More to Love.
That last one especially. He understood that there was more to Love. Mister Rogers was unconditionally kind and calm and understanding. Even when he sang his hokey songs and fed the fish, he got it. There is more to Love. There is always more to Love than we will ever know.
So instead of an entry today, go read this one. And I wish I had that power. I really do. More than anything.
Mister Rogers, you made the world a better place.
You were special. We’ll miss you.
