Anyone seen my support hose? Mmmmhmmm?

I think I scared Kim V. today.

We were discussing people we don’t like and who now don’t like me.

So Kim then mentions that I shouldn’t be too upset because I’ve been fighting with these two women for the last two years.

Um. Excuse me?

And that’s when I lost control. That’s when I said, “Er… no. I haven’t been fighting with them. I’ve been polite to them. I’ve been talking to them. I’ve been the picture of charm and grace. I have not been fighting with them. Because if they think I’ve been fighting with them, let them come see me and I will show them what fighting is all about, because obviously they don’t know what fighting is. They have not seen fighting apparently because if they start shit with me, I will show them fucking fighting.”

Silence.

She gave me a stunned “deer in headlights” look and that’s when I realized that I had my hand on my hip, and the hip was cocked out of the side, and my neck had loosened and was now doing a little bobbing thing and the finger… the pointy finger… well, let me tell you… it was up making it’s presence known.

That’s right. When I get my dander up, I go all “gangsta chick”.

It’s scary. I don’t blame Kim from being scared. You never know what’s going to happen. And if I start doing the “mmmmhmmm” Sling-blade thing, just watch it. You don’t want to stick around. It will be bad.

And really, they don’t know what fighting is about. I’ve been very nice to them. I don’t LIKE the way they’ve treated certain people and thus, no longer like them personally, but I HAVEN’T been fighting.

Not yet.

Got to see the new issue of Grogan’s Fantasy Football Analyst” today. Hysterical! Very funny! Oh, and the football stats are good too. But the article is da bomb. You must pick up a copy. It has a cover picture of Donovan McNabb (the interview of which knocked my article off of “cover feature” status) and the “Lola” article on the back page is quite cute.

And I got paid. WOOOHOO!!

Tonight as I was driving home, I achieved a strange milestone.

I saw a man outside mowing the lawn. Wearing shorts, black socks and sandals.

And for the first time in my life, I did not think to myself “Oh my god, why must the fashion victims continue to foister upon themselves these stereotypes” or something along those lines.

Instead, I inherently understood that he must have just gotten home from work. He must have taken off his business suit and shoes and threw on shorts and sandals. But why dirty another pair of socks? So he kept the black ones on.

And that’s how most people get sucked into cults. They first try to get you when you’re beaten down and feeling bruised (as I was immediately after work today) and then they try to make you see their side of things. So that you say, “Ok, that makes sense.”

It’s started already.

If you see me gardening with curlers in my hair, wearing a flowered muumuu and dark brown nylon knee-hi’s, you have my permission to club me over the head with a J.Jill catalog.

I was telling my fabulously beautiful friend and hairdresser Staci about my rosacea and she asks “What’s that?” and all I could blurt out was “I’ve got the fucking red face disease!”.

Which pretty much sums it up right there, doesn’t it?

A little barbequed meerkat for your liking, Ma’am?

Last night, I told Esteban about the whole Unclebob thing and I think he’s getting a little jealous. Also, he was disturbed that I’m calling him the Burgermeister. He wanted you all to know that he’s not the Burgermeister. Then he gave me this whole performance anxiety about the diary, talking about page hits, unique users, and stuff.

He is SO the Burgermeister.

We watched “The Emperor’s New Groove” last night. Then Esteban called me a DVD whore, which I am, I guess. Since our DVD player purchase, I have gained “Gladiator”, “Amadeus” and “LA Confidential” in DVD form. And that’s not counting “Bring It On”, which I purchased before we had a player. But I wear the badge of “DVD Whore” with honor, thank you very much, if it means more highly-defined Russell Crowe on our television screen.

I think I talk about Russell Crowe too much. People are going to start thinking that there’s a thing between us. And I wouldn’t want that whole Meg Ryan thing going on again. He was very hunted by the stalkerazzi over that shenanigans. Russell’s very sensitive. He’s an innocent soul trapped in a big hunk of salty goodness.

Hmmmmm.

What was I talking about again?

Oh yes, “Emperor’s New Groove”, which is about David Spade being turned into a llama and then John Goodman befriends him. And I say David Spade and John Goodman, because apparently the animators decided that they liked the actors so much they’d just use their body styles to create all the characters. So for the John Goodman guy, they made him a large gentle giant with a heart of gold and gave him a tan. For the David Spade Emperor, they drew a little uptight skinny runty guy a black wig and “Shake and Bake” tan. Big stretch, huh? Eartha Kitt looked like Eartha Kitt, without the tan. She even got turned into a kitty cat at the end which is most certainly a shout-out to her stint as Cat Woman on “Batman”. Her sidekick guy was voiced by the guy who was Puddy on Seinfeld. And you know what? He was Puddy from Seinfeld, in cartoon form. So tell me this: why the heck didn’t they just put a lot of bronzer on all the actors and just film a regular movie? I mean, the Genie from Alladin didn’t look like Robin Williams. Was he hairy? No. Was he short and swarthy? No. He had Robin’s weird nose and that was about it. However, I’m very thrilled with any excuse to have Eartha Kitt do her weird wiggy thing, so I shouldn’t complain.

I’m the only adult I know who not only owns ToyStory and Little Mermaid, but I have the Aladdin and the Little Mermaid soundtrack living permanently in my car’s CD player. Esteban and I saw ToyStory at the movie theatre three times. We saw The Lion King three times. At the theatre.

My husband and I are like 12-year-olds who like to have sex. And The Mouse is our cocaine dealer.

And it pissed me off to no end that the Disney Store doesn’t make Ariel “Princess” t-shirts in 3X. ‘Cause then I’d be the coolest 30-year-old seventh grader on the block.

Wait. I already am.

And it bothers me that I’ve so bought into the whole Disney coolness that Eisner is trying to shove down our throats. Because the world is not like that. Sometimes the guy’s villiage gets blown over for a swimming pool and the adorable but spunky poor kid just ends up bitter and alone, regretting his honest ways. Simba would have eaten that meerkat and warthog without even a second thought.

Today, my friend Fern took me to Tony Roma’s rib joint for lunch. Feeling oddly lulled by the bucolic scenes on the drive over, I had ribs for lunch.

Folks, ribs are best eaten naked. In the bathtub. Definately not for lunch when one is wearing a white shirt and when one needs to go back to work afterwards. One might look as though one gave Chef Boy-Ar-Dee a blow job.

I’m not saying *I* looked like that, mind you. Just saying that one might.

Man, this is one subpar entry today. Maybe I’ve jumped the shark.

Damned Burgermeister and his performance anxiety.

And now for an important news bulletin…

This just in!

I love watching comedy hour… also known as the local news.

Last night’s major story: at the Bellin Run (a large annual marathon-type thing, if you couldn’t tell that from the word “Run”), participants were asked to vote on which of the logos from previous Runs they preferred. The overwhelming majority of voters preferred the 1995 logo. The 1996 logo came in second.

Did they SHOW the 1995 or less desirable 1996 logo during this news story?

They did not.

However, they did close with banter in which the seasoned news anchor guy with plastic hair said, “And in five years, they’ll probably vote for this year’s logo… ha. ha. ha.”

This is the same local news that reported last year that there was “rioting in downtown Belgium tonight”. No, I was a little confused by this, as we do have a town near Green Bay called Belgium… population 342. I don’t think there’s a downtown in that town. That town is both uptown, crosstown and downtown. And the only rioting to be done in Belgium, Wisconsin is when Earl’s Tap runs out of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Thus, I can only conclude that they meant that the rioting was in Belgium the country. Which, as far as I know, has no town called Downtown. So I wrote them an email and asked if they realized that Belgium was a country and not a city. After two weeks, they replied that they informed their copywriter of this.

Awhile back, there was a fatal car/train accident in Downtown Green Bay (as opposed to downtown Wisconsin). The reporter closed the story with this pearl, “You never know with accidents like these. You might walk away without a scratch on you… or you could walk away DEAD.”

Um.

You’ve got to wonder if that would cause a limp of some sort. But I’d assume if you walked away dead from one accident, you’d definately get a special parking sticker for your car.

Tonight’s story: three teenagers went paddle-boating in the bay of Green Bay two days ago. Their paddleboat was found yesterday. The Coast Guard was sweeping the Bay, however they are believed dead and the search has been called off after 36 hours. Closing this story, the reporter stated “Obviously, this is a tragic end to these teens’ vacation.”

No. Not obvious at all to us. Thanks for pointing it out. Also, way to pimp the tourism aspect, dude.

But let’s keep it in perspective, shall we? If the world was going to end next week, the lead news story would be “Packer Season Cancelled! Mike Sherman unable be reached for comment. On the bright side of things, for all of you who’ve been waiting forty years for season tickets, thousands of passes became available.”

Weety Alzheimer’s Disease

Ok, first a clarification, Monitor remembers Alice having her own bathroom off her bedroom by the laundry room. And then I recalled an episode which had Mr. Brady brushing his teeth while talking with Carol, who was reading in bed. Thus, a third bathroom in the Brady household. I shall doubt Mike’s credibility as an architect no longer.

A new sign of aging noticed today. Actually, I have been noticing this over the last few months. I am developing Alzheimer’s disease. I’ve been losing the ability to spell. Homonyms are constantly being swapped (“won” instead of “one”, “hear” instead of “here”). And it’s not typos or feeble fingers, as I type all day at work. I think I disrupted the Brocha’s Area of my brain somewhere along the line. See, all those times hitting the headboard with my head… I knew it would catch up to me. And the brain cells I lost during my high school years. This is all the fault of the boyfriend I had when I was 17. He is singularly responsible for billions of my brain cells lost. It’s a wonder I can function whatsoever. So when you see things mispelled in this here diary, please say a silent prayer for my disabled synapses and hope that I don’t wander into traffic someday.

Also, not two seconds ago, someone came by and said “We have a meeting?” and I looked all flustered and said “Meeting?” and they said “It is 8 o’clock, isn’t it?”, so I gathered up my stuff and wandered back to the VP’s office. And guess what. I wasn’t supposed to be there. Nope. Not at all. And I blushed and made a lame excuse about getting old and then wandered back to my desk. But you know what? I seriously thought I had forgotten a meeting and I was just FAKING it. Now my rosacea’s all flared up and I can feel a pustule forming, I just know it. I’m going to be a W.C. Field’s-looking, disoriented freak, I tell you!

The new issue of “Grogan’s” hits the newstands within days. If you like Fantasy Football, or even if you don’t, feel free to pick up an issue for your reading enjoyment. And when I say enjoyment, I mean “sex” because it’s filled with sex and lusty women. Well, one lusty woman, at least. Ok, it’s really a lusty man named Frank. And actually, he doesn’t feel all that lusty, but with modern medicine being what it is, he’s feeling quite optimistic. But it’s a good read nonetheless. And it’s got my article in it about breaking gender stereotypes. Me and Gloria Steinem, baby. We’re like sistahs.

And here’s a hip tip for you: elsewhere in the issue, there is an interview with a resident of Green Bay named Lola. I can’t ethically reveal who Lola is, but let me tell you one thing: occaisionally I like to dance the marenge with yellow feathers in my hair and a dress cut down to there. That’s all you’re getting.

My, doesn’t that bring up the mental picture?

Planning continues for Birthday Spectacular’ party to bring Birthweek 30 to a close. It’s this Saturday at Esteban’s parent’s house. I guess it will be a bigger thang than I originally realized. They’re renting tables. Tables! Such extravagance. I’m not sure about the chair situation. I’m not involved…. I just invite.

And speaking of invitations, if you are interested in hanging out Saturday with the Weetabix cast and crew in scenic Green Bay, Wisconsin, send me an email and I’ll get you directions. No stalkers, though, please. Esteban would not be amused.

I recently discovered that a feather duster is considered a sex toy by some people. A sex toy.

Personally, I can think of nothing that would turn me on more than having a man dust my house. Really.

Whoooo. I get steamy just thinking about it.

Fallout from the Pinnacle of Birthweek

Ok, so today has been really crazy. In a good way, not in a Margot-Kidder-singing-“Jesus Loves Me”-in-a neighbor’s-backyard kind of way.

First this morning. I was touched by greatness and received several loverly emails from the crew.

Just to put in perspective how influential Unclebob is (or UB, as some call him), my diary normally has about 20-30 different users on it during any given day. And one of those users is me. Today, the diary had over 130 visitors and it’s only 9:00 PM. I think Unclebob should run for Senate. Or maybe Dogcatcher. Because then he might write more about funny pet poop issues.

So I go to work and my stall, er, cubicle is completely decorated with “Over the Hill” balloons. Remember my lil’ sis Amy who works with me? Yeah. Ok. The balloons were nice. The psychotic confetting of every crevice of my desk, including inside the drawers, not as cool. I will be glittery for the next decade, I promise you. I may need to quit my job to escape the glitter.

Then I got a call from my best friend in high school, Fern. Very cool. She’s coming to Birthday Spectacular’ on Saturday with her husband. She’s taking me out to lunch on Friday. Awesome.

Then Esteban called. He took me to lunch today. Anywhere I wanted. So I picked awful greasy Sports Bar #253, in the shadow of Lambeau Field. And ate my entire lunch WITH MY FINGERS. And Esteban did not say a word. Then I snitched three of his huge potato wedges off his plate. And he endulged me (and I KNOW he hates that! Because it would piss me off too!) even when I stole the very last watery sip of his Mountain Dew. Go ahead. Pander to me. Endulge me. I am your goddess. Say it! I am your GODDESS!!!! And driving back to work, he stopped at a gas station and jumped out of the car to purchase some Dasani water for me and some Advil, which just pisses him off to no end, paying $5 for a bottle of Advil at the convenience store. And then he drove slowly by the Packer mini-camp so I could lean out the window and show my breasts to Brett Favre and yell “Wooooooo!”. Then we laid down some streak and busted out of there before Mark Chumura could write down our license plate.

Ok. That last bit didn’t happen at all.

Then back to work, where I scored some swag off a client at a major carbonated beverage company (although won’t know what the swag is until it gets here!) and I didn’t even tell him it was my birthday. More emails from more friends at work, which was very lovely.

Then home, where I declared that I desired barely cooked flesh of cow for dinner and only HoidyToidy supperclub overlooking the Fox River would do. We hardly ever go there because it’s where Green Bay’s pseudo-elite and old money hang out. We generally see Packers there and figured we’d risk it, after the lunchtime flashing. Maybe I’d get a free drink? But only the blue-hairs and white patent-leather shoe crowd were in attendance tonight. We dined on fabulous undercooked tenderloins. Truthfully, I think that the only reason I go there is for the raspberry vinaigrette dressing and I’m sure that they’re just using Paul Newman’s, but I don’t really care. It’s Birthweek, dammit! Endulge me! I didn’t eat with my fingers there, though… not much, anyway.

Then off to the rentals, where I received a lovely jumongous ROCK on a chain, as well as a new pair of athletic shoes. You see, Mom knows I’m too cheap to clad my feet in expensive nice shoes, but I do so love them, so she buys them for me for my birthday and Christmas. Which, if you read “The World According To Garp” is strangely poetic, only these don’t contain douche.

Esteban’s gift to me was a SLICK tripod for my camera setup, which is now worth more than my car. The NICE car.

And how’s this for Murphy’s law. I run into the house to catch a phone call and it’s lovely Mary Kaye, my best friend in the whole world, so I flop my ass onto the sofa and promptly hit my elbow so hard on the wall that the air around me turned blue and thick with vile language. That’s my hello to Mary Kaye. It’s a good thing she’s all that. She understood completely. Plus, Esteban humored her until I stopped channeling Andrew Dice Clay. I tell you, I think this diary has turned me into a potty mouth. It’s mofo this and mofo that. Fucking ‘eh.

I chatted with Mary Kaye for a few minutes and suddenly there’s a knock on the door. Flowers. From Joel and Cheri. Is that not the sweetest fricking thing? I’m astonished. So very thoughtful of them.

I tell you. I feel like Audrey Hepburn today. All “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” or maybe it was “Roman Holiday” or something. Actually, I’ve never seen either of those movies, so I have no idea. I’m just imagining what she must have been like. I have seen the movie where she’s blind and a bad guy’s trying to kill her for diamonds in some doll’s body or something, but I don’t feel like that. So let’s just say “Roman Holiday” Audrey Hepburn and be done with it, shall we?

And just to make this more of a standard “Weetabix” entry, here’s a thought:

What the hell is wrong with Angelina Jolie’s body in “Tomb Raider”??? Normal women do NOT have breasts that look like that. It’s like all the shit she injects into her lips has now settled in her chest cavity. When she lowers her head, her chin actually brushes against the tops of her breasts. Real breasts, even real silicon breasts, have some sort of gravitational pull thing happening. She seems to be wearing some sort of space-age bust enhancer thing.

So, um, I’d like to know where she got it and if perhaps they have one in plus-sized?

And I’m working to get Dave Matthews to play at dmbfanatic16’s next birthday party. I’ll let you know when that is.

Because I’m so thrilled that I asked for something and it actually happened. I got a lovely email from UncleBob after asking for it in my diary. And I know that’s dmbfanatic16’s wish, so I’m going to work on it. I’m not promising or anything, just working on it.

And if anyone else is feeling generous, what I want for my next Birthweek is for Russell Crowe to come over and retile my bathroom. Naked. And when I say “naked”, I’m implying “sweating”. But that’s a given. I have the tiles already picked out.

What’s YOUR ultimate birthday present?

Unclebob! Oh my God! Unclebob!

UNCLEBOB favorited me!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god.

What a day this has been already and it is not even 10 AM.

I feel like I’ve been touched by greatness. Like those women who, when they met Elvis, fainted. I’d always suspected it was because the Kahng had peanut-butter-and-bacon-sandwich breath, but now I know. Because Unclebob….

I can’t even finish that sentence. I’m just too overwhelmed!

I think I have the vapors. I don’t know what the vapors are, exactly. I’ve never had them before. Maybe it’s an “30 and Over” thing.

Esteban was not as excited as I was, however. Perhaps it was due to the fact that he was awakened this morning by me jumping on the bed yelling “Unclebob! Unclebob!”. He’s pretty accustomed to me shrieking the names of other men in the bedroom, but usually it’s “Russell Crowe!” or sometimes even “Dan Rather”. Rarely an uncle, so I think he was confused.

Anyway, WOOHOO! Unclebob!

And the other cool thing this morning is that I got a lovely birthday email from Monitor who has assured me that being thirty kicks ass.

So far, she is so right.

I should turn 30 every year. In fact, I think I will.

Sorry for the whacked diary entry today. Unclebob has me all a-flutter.

Mindless Rambling as I near old age

Ok, nary 3 hours ’till the pinnacle of Birthweek festivities (actual BirthDAY), and still not a sign of Unclebob. I think with all the free advertising I’ve given him, the mofo owes me a favorite, don’t you?

Well?

I am still in my twenties!

Tee minus two hours fifty-four minutes and counting….

I’m all conflicted about Alice from the Brady Bunch, ever since I wrote about her here. I mean, she lived in that laundry room and the fricking Brady house only had one bathroom. Did poor Alice have to traipse up to the second floor and winkle while worrying about being accosted from either door by the Brady urchins? I don’t know if I could go under those circumstances. I get performance anxiety very easily. If there’s someone in the public restroom at work, I have a hard time making any sound other than gentle tinkling. I feel guilty even making urgent tinkling sounds. My grandmother used to say that when a woman pee’d like that, it meant that she was not a lady, alluding to late nights spent bleary-eyed in a juke joint, dancing with men named Earl to Conway Twitty ballads and permanently smelling of stale smoke and olives stolen on stained bar napkins. So peeing like a racehorse sends me into peals of guilt.

And I won’t even go into the whole idea of AIR ESCAPING.

Nope. Will. Not. Do. It.

Not even a sneaky “thip” would be appropriate.

I am so repressed.

But back to my fixation on Alice. First of all, Mr. Brady, he of gently permed hair and several sweet “I am not gay” convertibles, wasn’t he a freaking architect? Did he DESIGN the Brady home with one bathroom and two bedrooms for six kids? And the man gives himself a nice big study? And then there was the family room off the kitchen. What the hell was that all about? I find it hard to believe that ol’ Mike kept his sweet architect job and could support his non-working wife, six kids and Alice’s wages.

And why did Jan never yell at Mike “You’re not my Dad! I don’t have to listen to you!” Why did Peter never get a big old crush on his “sister” Marcia or Jan? Or at very least, try to see them naked? How could the Brady boys masterbate in their room? Or the Brady girls for that matter? Why was the girl’s room so much bigger than the boy’s room? Why didn’t Mike tell Cousin Oliver’s dad, look, I’ve got six kids, a stay at home wife, a maid, and a mistress down the street. My plate is full. Take your freaky “John Denver” clone kid and bring him to Grandma’s house, ‘k?

Forgive me. I know this is my age talking.

Pass me my liver pills, would ya?

And turn the tv down? My bunions are driving me nuts and I don’t know how to work this new-fangled remote thing here.

The Villiage People don’t listen to Jim Rome

Today at work they are working on the big space next to our department. Actually, they’ve been doing this for over a month, hammering, pounding, sawing, bumping, grinding, pole-dancing and what have you. And you KNOW how much I hate drilling. It makes me insane. Voices, the voices! Kill the dentist! KILL the dentist!…Um,…anyway….we’ve got loads of construction workers about six feet away from my desk. And the radio. Do you realize what kind of things construction workers like to listen to on the radio? Let’s just say this… much to my chagrin, Esteban enjoys listening to Jim Rome. And let’s also get this out of the way: I am astonished that Jim Rome has a JOB, much less a broadcasting license. The man talks like a frat boy given an AM radio talk show. And he revels in saying “AAAAAASSSSS” just like that. AAAAAAASSSSS. And now Esteban has begun imitating him because imitation is the sincerest form of dorkiness. So not only do I have to put up with Esteban saying AAAAAASSSSSS like Jim Rome, or Romey as the Rome-followers call him… like he was a drinking buddy or something…. but I also have to deal with Esteban trying to listen to the Rome Show on the rare occaisions when we are both home during the week. I say ‘trying’ because I have laid the smack down on Jim Rome. There is a moratorium on slack-jawed, egotistical bastards at the Weetabix household. One per home, please. No, I didn’t mean that. Esteban does not have a slack jaw. He had braces for six months.

Anyway, the construction workers LIKE Jim Rome. And we get to listen to him at work at MIND-ALTERING VOLUMES. Because they have to be able to hear every gutteral tone of ‘AAAAASSSSSS’ over the sounds of drilling, hammering, and sawing.

Grrrrr.

But that’s not the really bothersome thing today. Today, it is roughly 85 degrees and we had some mofo thunderstorms and rain last night. When you live near water, that translates to some heavy humidity. And due to the fact that the construction workers are traipsing in and out of the area, the pathetic climate control in our area cannot keep up with the heat.

Thus, I am currently working in the Amazon jungle of Tech Support. And it smells like a strange combination of the banana that my coworker is eating, and armpit.

That and the construction workers have been asked to turn off Jim Rome and they are now whistling “The Battle of New Orleans”, which, in case you are not total white trash and were not subjected to honky tonk music in your youth, goes something like this “Well In 1814 we took a little trip along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip. We took a little bacon and we took a little beans And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans. Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn’t go. They ran so fast that the hounds couldn’t catch ’em on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.”

I am not making this up.

Someone shoot me in the head with a squirrel gun, please.

Editing this to add that tomorrow’s my birthday and Unclebob has not yet “favorited” me yet. Nor sent me an email.

Do you think he’s saving it for tomorrow for a surprise?

It could happen.

Silly toes for Stone’s Beau

Ok, THIS is too funny.

I should not be laughing. The pain and agony of a skanky celebrity’s husband is not funny. We here at Weetabix.diaryland.com do not condone laughing at the suffering and misfortune of the celebrity spouses or hangers on, even when they do something stupid or marry Tom Arnold.

To recap, for those of you too lazy to follow the link I painstakingly made for you above, Sharon “Skank-Crotch” Stone’s husband, Phil Bronstein, decided to go muck around in a Komodo Dragon’s cage. Does the L.A. Zoo normally allow its citizens to accost the Komodo dragons or other lizard population (I mean the lizards in the zoo, not the lizard citizens of Los Angelos)? Probably this is one of those STAR PRIVILEGES that you receive when you are married to a woman who’s camel toe interior was gaped by everyone and their beaver–er, brother.

Now, in case you’ve never encountered a Komodo Dragon, just look at the name. Dragon. This should clue you in. You know those lizard things that stole the chickens on the good Survivor? Komodos make them look like skinks. Komodo dragons, I am certain, were the inspiration for Sleestacks.

Not something a sane person would want to dance with. No cha-chaing with the dragon, please, but could I pet the furry Koala? Maybe stick my hand down the pouch of a Kangaroo?

I can just see this scene, man. Imagine the Dragon Keeper guy. I’m thinking he looks like the Bill Murray character from CaddyShack. Carl. He’s DragonKeeper Carl. And in his spare time, he’s out getting stoned and pissing about how he could have been big time, could have been the Dragon Keeper in the San Diego Zoo, but no, he’s there in L.A. where they only get the animals no longer wanted by stars. And he’s ticked because they have to go and pick up George Clooney’s pig later that afternoon.

So Dragon Keeper Carl gets called in by his boss to let some schmuck go into the Dragon cage. And Carl gets there and who’s standing there but Sharon “Kootchie” Stone and her Bevis-esque husband, Mr. Sharon Stone. And Dragon Keeper Carl has always had these fantasies about Sharon, ever since he saw her all butch in “The Quick and the Dead” (in which she got to kiss a wet Russell Crowe, which probably explains the hostility I feel for her). And her husband is standing there, all decked out like the freaking Crocodile Hunter and his boner is going to get in with the lizards. DragonKeeper Carl’s lizards.

So poor Phil is about to enter the cage and the Dragon Keeper guy (god, this sounds like the plot to Krull, fabulous fantasy movie from the early 80’s starring people who’ve never been heard from again, other than Liam Neeson who had a short lusty role) tells Mr. Sharon Stone to remove his tennis shoes.

“Why?”

“Um,” and Carl looks back at Sharon, who is busily calling her cocaine dealer to make a delivery down by the Primate Habitat. And Carl thinks maybe he can get somewhere with Sharon if Mr. Sharon is out of the way. “Because they might think your foot is a big fluffy white bunny, dude.”

So Mr. Stone goes in and Chomp, there goes his toes. All because Sharon showed off her clam to Michael Doulas and the world.

It’s almost as funny as when Michael Jordon chomped his finger in a cigar cutter. I think maybe he was thinking of new ways to market BallPark frank slicers, honestly.

And these people make Robert Downey, Jr the butt of their jokes. Please.

All I ever needed to know, I learned from being fat

I was emailing Tess about reclaiming the “Fat Girl” and the word “Fat” and I thought I’d do an entry about it. I realize that I’ve alluded to being fat in previous entries, but here’s the whole shebang. An obligatory entry from a female diarist about her relationship with food, if you will.

I’ve thought of myself as overweight my whole life. When I was five, I remember my step-father poking me in the stomach and telling me that I needed to diet. I proceeded to gain weight from that point on. When I was 12, I remember that my aunt was talking about having a picture of me when I was “skinny” and I remember being clueless and desparately wanting to see the picture. When could that have happened that I didn’t notice being skinny? I thought. Then I finally saw the picture. My sixth birthday party. And I remember that day very well because my step-father didn’t want me to eat the cake because he put me on a diet. And I remember taking my birthday cake at the birthday party and going out to the garage to eat it, where he couldn’t see me.

Skip forward several years. I tried a big diet plan, lost 30 pounds, got anorexic (yes, people who weigh more than 200 pounds CAN be anorexic… it means that you’re not eating enough because you think your body is unnacceptable). I remember decreasing my food intake further and further. One day I ate four pieces of wheat toast and an apple. The morning after that, I fainted in the shower and crashed naked and wet through a glass shower door. Ok, that was enough of THAT shit.

For awhile, I was trying to conquer my whole obsession with food. I read a couple of books on the subject and they all said “Try to eat like you did when you were a child”. Um. Ok. But I don’t think I really want my wicked former Step-Father at my house threatening to beat the shit out of me if I don’t eat everything on my plate, ok?

So I think what they were trying to say is “Eat like a child would, a child who is not being threatened by a short-dicked, overly agressive scary stupid man.”

Now we’re getting somewhere.

I tried this for a couple of years. The principle is that if you want to eat something, you eat it. If you’re not hungry, you don’t eat. Even if it’s dinner time, even if you’re at a wedding or Christmas at the in-laws or what have you. And you carry little baggies of food around with you, in case you should get hungry when you are at a place where you can’t eat. And I did this. And I gained 60 pounds.

So I stopped doing that and went on a diet and lost 20 pounds and then gained 40 pounds (for those English majors out there, that leaves me 80 pounds heavier than when I started). Because everyone knows that diets don’t work and have a 99.98% failure rate. Just look at Oprah. Girl’s got a private chef, a private trainer and the thighs just don’t want to give up their winter storage, even though it’s 95 degrees outside.

And then I realized something. I was a happy kid and everyone ELSE started telling me that how I looked was unacceptable. And I wasn’t unnacceptable. They were. They were unacceptable in how they treated me. Fuckers.

And so now I’ve unconsciously started eating like a child. For instance, the whole McDonald’s incident is a sign of that. I went to Taco Hell yesterday for lunch and then I ate seven Oreos for dinner with a glass of milk. Now, normally, I’d WANT to eat the Oreos but my mother’s voice in my head would say “That is NOT a proper meal for dinner. Eat something reasonable!” so I’d go and eat a regular thing, like a piece of lasagne or whatever. And then I wouldn’t be satisfied, so I’d make a peanut butter & banana sandwich and a glass of milk. And then I’d still want the Oreos, so then I’d have the Oreos as a snack and feel like shyte because I’d eaten way too much and that was pretty much just a binge, so then I might eat a few more Oreos to try to feel better.

But it’s just food. Once it’s out of your mouth and down your gullet, it’s done. It’s like the biggest waste of emotion there is. It’s a ripoff. So why give it that much power? Just eat the goddamn Oreos and be done with it.

So last night, as I was lying in bed, I recapped what I had eaten that day (still can’t break myself of that habit). Bowl of healthy cereal, two tacos and a mexican pizza, and Oreos and a glass of milk. And I wasn’t hungry at all. It didn’t occur to me that I hadn’t actually eaten a real dinner until I did the inventory. And I didn’t miss it, either.

I am so bloody sick with this cultural ideal of the skinny beautiful chick. There are beautiful fat chicks too. Enough people don’t realize this. For instance, Star Jones is beautiful. So is my hairdresser, Staci. Gorgeous.

So stop seeing fat girls and just see them as girls, ok? That’s your assignment for the week.

And the next time you look in the mirror and think “Oh God I am so fat!” add “Not that there’s anything wrong with that” which sounds really stupid, but it works. And maybe eventually you’ll stop automatically thinking that when you look in the mirror. Life is too short to go around hating how you look. It’s just how you look. Just like there’s thin people, there’s also fat people and people with green hair, blue eyes, birthmarks on their butts, and scary amounts of back hair.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

This is not to say that I’m all Fat!So? or Fat Activist. You certainly won’t be seeing my bod on the beach wearing a thong bikini. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. However, I’m not living with the “ashamed to be seen” mindset that so many girls have.

It’s just how you look. Eventually, we’re all going to have grey hair, wrinkly skin, hunched Quasimodo backs and hair coming out of our ears. And then all we’re going to really have is to look back at when we were young and wish we would have done a little less hiding and self-hate and more living and being young. It’s like that graduation speech which was falsely attributed to Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. You’re going to look back and not believe that you looked so good.

You know, I think this is the Birthweek talking.

Edited to add that I almost deleted this entry because I felt like it was whiny, but then Amandabean left a loverly poignant message in the guestbook and I changed my mind and I’m keeping it up. If you’d like to see a 19-year-old Weetabix’s perspective on the subject, you can check it out here.

By the way, if you list amandabean as one of your favorite diarists, she’s offered to show you her breasts. Just letting you know.
