Dirty Dishes and Panties

Mood: slightly chirpy

Song stuck in my head right now: Do Right Woman/Do Right Man… Sarah Vaughn

Wearing: white pants (only 1 1/2 week short of Memorial Day), light pink shirt, white t-back undies, athletic shoes with white socks

Two days ago, Esteban and I had Dirty Dishes Fight #2601. We have this agreement… see, he does the dishes and I do the laundry and we split everything else. Then we realized that housework wasn’t so cut and dried, so it turned into: he does the dishes and the cat box, I do the laundry and the toilet, and we split everything else. Ok, so what ended up happening was that I would constantly be doing laundry on my own time. He would let the dishes pile up. When it came to Cleaning Day, he would start on the dishes and I would clean everything else. He feels this is fair, somehow. In actual hours, it is not. But I’m beyond this point now. I’ve simply come to accept the fact that the unspoken agreement is now: he does dishes (rarely), cleans the catbox, and takes care of the lawn/snowy driveway, and I do everything else. Everything else. Shopping, groceries, bill paying, toilet scrubbing, vaccumming, dusting, picking up, taking out the garbage, laundry, dry cleaning, sweeping, scrubbing, bending, kissing ass, you name it, I do it.

This is not the issue, however.

Apparently, Esteban feels this system is too taxing on him. He is, after all, mowing the lawn one hour a week and thus does not have time to do the dishes but once every two months. Yes, people, he hasn’t done the dishes in two months. No, I’m lying. Before he left for Vegas, he washed fifteen minutes worth of dishes and then we had to leave and he actually pitifully said “But… what about the dishes?” and that absolved him of dish duty. Because he had a plane to catch but at least he was sorry about it, right?

Tuesday night I came home from work. His butt was parked in the LazyBoy, cat on his lap. He had spent the day helping a friend with his computer. He was too busy to do the dishes, which hadn’t been done fully since Easter (when I did them). I know this because my mother’s pan is still there, dirty, along with the pitcher I made the mimosas in.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think I’ve been very tolerant thus far. Months, people. It’s been months. I have said nothing.

I couldn’t take it anymore. I asked about the dishes. He said he didn’t care, don’t ask him about it. Fight ensued. He gave me an ultimatum. I said “It’s my house too.” He didn’t care. Bad words were said. He said that this same fight has been played over and over, which is true, and he didn’t want to have it any more. I said, “Fine, don’t talk to me about it then, because ‘Buffy’ is about to come on and I don’t want you to talk to me during it.” And he went out to cut the grass and I made and ate dinner (did I mention that I do all the cooking too?).

He was very good about not talking to me during Buffy. He sucked up afterwards. I went to work on my computer.

He asked if I wanted to go for a drive (no).

He asked if I would like to go with him to get an ice cream cone (no).

He asked if I wanted a blanket or a glass of water (no).

He then said “I’m going to the gas station to pick up some cigarettes… do you want anything.” And I said, “Ok, I’d like a rootbeer float from A&W” which is in a gas station near us.

He faltered,”I wasn’t going to THAT gas station.”

I looked at him, “Oh, then nevermind.”

He leaves and comes back with my rootbeer float. I thank him. I drink most of it and then go to bed.

He must have relaxed because then he comes in and wakes me up. “Do you have money in your check book I can borrow?”

Me, half awake, “Um… yeah.”

“I need $300 for my Visa bill.”

He makes twice the money that I do. He just got the tax return back and it was deposited in his check book. He, to my knowledge, doesn’t actually spend any of his money on anything (especially since the groceries, gas, etc, comes from my check book).

So I yelled at him for waking me up to talk about money and bills.

Now, maybe I’m a harpie bitch here. It could be, I’m not denying that I’m pretty harsh and cold when I’m upset with people.

So the next morning, I called him from work and asked him to get a new toilet seat to replace the one he broke. He pouts, “You didn’t wake me up this morning before you left! You’re my alarm clock.”

Oh well.

I know. Harsh.

So he brings me some roses at work, which was nice, but I knew that when I got home the dishes STILL WOULDN’T BE DONE! All the flowers were were a “GET OUT OF PISSED OFF WENDY FREE CARD” for the dishes. Like, how could I be made about the rotting smelly heap of dirty crud in the sink and on the counter if he gives me some pretty coral-colored roses?

I really resent the gender-role stereotypes that have developed. Him balking only at doing the “female role” of dish washer. Oooh, the little woman is pissed, so send her flowers. Eeeesh.

Tonight. If they are not done tonight, the loud sound you hear coming from my house will be the SMACK being laid down.

Like I said. Harsh.

On a lighter note (a more than you really wanted to know type thing): I’m test-driving the new thongy panties today. I realized as I was walking into work that as I walk, I must be able to feel “normal” underwear on my butt cheeks. This makes sense as you think about it, because what really is your butt other than the tops of each of your legs, which must move as you walk. So now, the cheeks are unencumbered and instead I have this little strap of material down the center, pulled tight by elastic. It is very strange. My other thongs have been elastic little straps… this is more of a “sport thong” built for comfort, I guess. Ah, technology.

Still haven’t golfed yet. Maybe I will go to the range after work. Cari and I went to lunch today and made tentative plans to golf on Sunday, so I need to swing some practice strokes before then. Woohoo! I can stop whining about not golfing.

I have the urge to rip out every shred of carpet in our house. Maybe not.

“Broken Toilet Seats” for $200, Alex

Mood: relaxed for being at work

Listening to: some 60’s remake thing

Wearing: 70’s retro shirt, black pants, yada yada…

Esteban broke our toilet seat. This is depressing. It was fairly new, less than three months old. He said he was (I warn you, not a pleasant image coming up so you might just want to skip to the next paragraph)……. bending over to wipe his ass and it, pardon the pun, cracked.

So now when I use the facilities, it pinches my hiney. Which is depressing, not to mention painful. I have assigned him the task of getting a new seat today, so hopefully the bottom will be unbesmirched in the future. I have yet to understand how he possibly broke the damn seat, though. It’s not like he let it drop or something.

I am becoming strangely addicting to IRC chatting. Plus, my desire to go to Ireland is tenfold.

Esteban’s mom said that she has given up on the idea of getting grandchildren. That makes me very sad. Sad for her and sad for me. But I’m not sure I’m ready to be a parent right now but someday I will be, and I doubt that Esteban will ever be ready. It’s not me that’s preventing this.

Chelsea was almost 8 pounds when Esteban took her in. I’m not sure if this is a hopeful sign or not.

Depressories

I think my cat Chelsea is going downhill.

She is 18 years old. She’s on two different medications. I caught her peeing on the living room rug last week, so I hauled her to the vet. They couldn’t take a urine sample (because she’d just pee’d on my rug, duh) but they gave me a bunch of antibiotics. But that wasn’t the disturbing part. She’s down to 6 1/2 pounds now. That means that she has lost half of her weight… she used to be 12 pounds. That gives me a queasy feeling, knowing that, thinking about that. It’s like she’s concentration camp kitty and there’s no reason for it.

So all week, I’ve been shoving antibiotics down her throat and feeding her her favorite canned food instead of her normal dry, trying to coax her to eat a bit more. Esteban’s back from Vegas, so I made him take her to the vet yesterday. I didn’t ask what she weighed, but they were unable to take a urine sample again. They got home and Esteban caught her trying to pee in his office. He changed the box again.

This morning, I gave her her food and shut the door so she could eat it without Tilly chowing it up. She was trapped away from the litter box about 15 minutes… it normally takes her about 10 minutes or so to eat.

When I opened the door that separates the kitchen from the dining room again, she was away from the food dish. I went into the living room and she was standing in the same spot I had caught her in last Saturday, about to pee again. Now, I know that I had kept her away from the box, but there is no reason that she should have not been able to “hold it” for 15 minutes. I have a feeling that it wouldn’t have mattered if the door had been open or not, because she’s pee’d there other times when the box was accessible.

I scooped her up and tried to put her in her box, but she stepped right back out. Then I picked her up again and gave her the medicine and her pills. I put her down and then she went into the box and used it.

This brings up tons of weird feelings. When Pookie died, it was hard and painful. I felt numb and I just didn’t want to think about him. But now, with Chelsea, we’ve been having the feeling that she’s been getting senile. She walks very stifly and she really doesn’t like to go down the stairs to the basement (which is why the litter box is in the dining room for her). She will not jump more than three feet. She’s meowing all the time.

I think it’s time.

This really brings up horrible reminders of when my great-grandmother had alzheimer’s disease and then had her stroke. I wasn’t involved in the decision to pull the life support system. The decision had been made by the time that I found out. She was already declining when I got to the hospital, wheels turning toward the inevitable conclusion. All in all, it was for the best, everyone kept telling themselves this. However, it seemed not right to me. If we would have fed her, she would have lived. She basically dehydrated and starved to death, her skin loosening and falling away from her face toward the earth. It was almost possible to convince yourself that it was the right thing to do, but then disturbing things would happen… she would grip my hand with her hot velvet paw and cling to this world. Together, we’d sit in that room, absent of beeping life support machines, and I’d turn the television to shows I’d think she’d enjoy… John Wayne, the Waltons. She died during Lawrence Welk. It was on in an empty room.

Even when Pookie had to be put to sleep, it was bad. We weren’t expecting it. His kidney’s had failed and Esteban made me make the decision because he “couldn’t do it”. I was racked by guilt over this for three years afterward. Should I have tried harder? Should we have done dialysis for him? Would he have recovered? Was I being driven by monetary concerns or my compassion for him?

So anyway, this “it’s for the best” attitude is falling flat. In my logical brain, I know that my great-grandmother had specified that she did NOT want to be a vegetable on a bed, being supported by machines. She was terrified by the thought of not being able to feed herself. But I wonder if she wanted to go? I can’t help but think that when you are actually IN the bed, actually feeling yourself slip away, that you’d want anything ANYONE to fight for you, to fight to bring you back. I think that I failed them both.

And now Chelsea. If I have her put down because she’s peeing on my rugs, won’t it just be because I don’t want a smelly rug? Or is this peeing a behavior caused by dysfunctioning and failing senses?

And the worst part of this is that I know already that I can’t rely on Esteban making the decision. It will go on and on and on because he will never bring himself to suggest that we put her down.

I hate being the adult.

Materialistic Wants

Mood: way too full

Wearing: white tee-shirt, black vest, black pants, black flats, no socks, rhinestone headband.

Listening to: 80’s English alternative music

Went mega-shopping on Saturday. Spent WAY too much on bras and panties. A girl can never have enough bras and panties though. I lurve the expensive panties… they hold up so much better than the cheapies and the cotton is much better quality. The thing is: I bought this expensive tee-shirt bra thing. I already have one, but because it is micro-fiber, it stretched way the heck out and it’s loose. Too loose. Doesn’t prep the way I need. This time, I opted for a smaller size and an underwire. The hoisting is great, but there’s a strange phenomenon occurring…. perkage. The girls are “perking” through the bra. I look chilled all the time. Apparently, the sheer fabric required to not show under tee-shirts is a little too sheer for the girls. So, if you see me adjusting, that’s the scoop.

Another shopping blowout: I broke down and bought the telescopic lens for my camera. And a leather equipment bag. And the new expansion pack for The Sims. And a 12’er of zoom film. I’m a bad, bad girl. $600 later and feeling a bit of remorse.

Today is Kraft day here at work. They brought in the whole big schlameel: china plates, silverware, lobster stuffed chicken breasts, oriental ginger salad, shiffonade green beans…. hence the “mood” statement above.

I talked to a lady at work today about making a dress for Renaissance Faire this summer. I’m picking out a lovely cleavage baring ensemble. I’m playing with the idea of purchasing a tiara online to go with it. I love the idea of being a haughty noble. Now, I must find shoes to go with it.

I think this costume thing is just like the golf thing: I need accessories. I’m an accessories chick. And Esteban is not enough of a Sugar Daddy to indulge my need to be pampered in accessories. I need a new sugar daddy! ; )

In the mood to golf, btw, still. Must find women’s pink golf shoes.

God, I’m feeling materialistic today! What’s up with this???

My new favorite water in the world is Dasani. It bothers me that I have become such a product of overcommericalization that I actually believe that there is a difference between brands of bottled WATER, but there is. Dasani is bottled by Coca-Cola. Besides providing a hefty percentage of my annual salary, Coca-Cola is probably responsible for much evil in the world. I have a feeling that somewhere in the Bible Code is a phrase that states “And the beast shall reveal itself and it will deliver addictive diet sodas in curvy earth-destroying plastic containers. And it will be good.” I don’t care. I’m Coca-Cola’s bitch and they know it.

The weather is beautiful today and I’m on super-human speed. I’m walking fast, I’m driving fast, I’m typing fast.

Esteban comes home from Las Vegas today and I’m going to be an uber-callous wench and NOT pick him up from the airport. Sorry. Don’t feel like it. Heartless, I know, but he’s fine with it. I must go to Appleton and pick up a book for my mother for Mother’s Day and also shop for HIS mother, also for Mother’s Day. I purchased the cards last night, and it occurs to me that I did not buy one for HIS grandma, although I bought one for my own grandma. Feh. Don’t yet know what I will purchase for Esteban’s mom, maybe a gift certificate for Christopher Banks. Anyhoo, that’s my plans for tonight, unless I get sidetracked by my pc once I stop at home.

If I were a superhero, I would be Jeopardy Girl. Purveyor of all inane knowledge, facts and trivia. Able to track down supercriminals with the use of the internet. My big superhero weakness would be resisting conversations that start with “what was England like?”. I think my superhero garb would be a school girl blue/green plaid skirt, white button down shirt, and tortoise-shell glasses. And pigtails and black patent leather Mary Jane shoes. And a cape. Maybe a bunch of schoolbooks held together with a leather strap, for pummeling my enemies with.

This morning, as I lay in bed trying to avoid waking up, I watched one of the spindly spiders from the basement idle its way across the ceiling. Ick.

I am Jack’s irritated liver.

Today I am grouchy.

Grouchy, grouchy, grouchy.

I tried explaining my Europe angst to Esteban and he just didn’t get it. He whined and said that we’d go after we took care of bills, and that I’m always all about the instant gratification. This is sometimes true, but not now. I’ve been waiting to go back for 4 years!!!!! I doubt that this is instant gratification! It’s like when someone has been abstaining for sex for a long time. It begins to build up until you aren’t thinking straight. That being said, I admit that I AM instant gratification girl about most things, but not this.

Grrrrrr.

Grouchy.

Went to the dentist yesterday. Dr. John is sporting a Goatee. He kept saying “Zesty” imitating the Taco Bell commercials. It was giving me the wigguns. Dr. John is not, nor never has been, hip. He thinks I have a baby cavity but nothing to worry about right now, probably next time it will get drilled. Yikes. Drilled. Every two and a half years, I’ve been getting a cavity. So much for perfect teeth Karma that followed me for my first 25 years. Apparently, the first two cavities weren’t flukes.

Grrrr.

Dad put in a new screen in the front door. This needed to be done because Esteban put a hole in the screen last fall and then did NOTHING about it. Dad is so sweet. I need to make him cookies or something. Such a sweetie. He understands me.

Of course, long time readers of this diary will realize that I’m referring to Esteban’s dad, Esteban Sr., and not my actual biological father who doesn’t deserve the title of “dad”.

Grrrr. Why’d I bring THAT up?

Today, I’m wearing Sporty Spice outfit. I’m hoping to go golfing, or at least to the range, but most likely I will not. That would involve a bunch of time and also cleaning out the trunk of my car to fit my cute clubs inside. But I’m pretending that I’m going to the range tonight and it’s making me a little less grouchy.

Just a little.

I received a phone call from my grandmother this morning, extremely early on my work line. I was actually here but did not have my phone turned on, so I saw the message come in and called her right back. I think that was intentional because I don’t think she wanted to talk to me at that point. She wanted to make sure that Amy and I knew that they were planning a Mother’s Day get together. She wasn’t interested in knowing if we were actually coming to this thing, she just wanted to make sure that we didn’t “feel slighted”. It was purely political. There has been a whole rift in our family over this thing and I truly don’t care. That’s a bad attitude for me to have, but I don’t care. It’s regrettable, but I can honestly say that month’s go by and I don’t miss talking with them. I love my grandmother dearly but she has turned into a really mean and conniving person. I don’t have time in my life for that. As Esteban says, we’ve been fairly stress and dysfunction free since we’ve been extracted from the lotus of control that is my grandmother. Amy calls her “Mafia Grandma” and I think she’s right. Sad, though.

For some reason, my left pinky keeps wanting to type in caps, because it keeps turning the caps lock on. WHO AM I TO QUESTION THE NEEDS OF MY LEFT PINKY FINGER?

I think it would be better for everyone involved if I just locked myself in a closet for awhile until I’m done being crabby.

Last night’s dream was about Kassandra’s family. I dreamed that me and Kim V. went to visit Kass’s family in Waupaca and that we were going to spend the night on their floor. There were a bunch of people, though and everyone was sleeping on the floor. Abby was there too, so I was going to sleep next to her. It was strange. Then Kass came home and made up with her mom and things were strange, but we had a big southern style feast with yummy biscuits and it was less strange. I know. Bizarro dream.

Grrrr.

Homesick for the motherland

Today, I’m all about Europe.

Yep, it’s approaching the fourth anniversary of my trip to England and every year this strange phenomena happens: I get the crazies about the U.K.

I cannot truly explain the longing that I feel for that place. It’s an ache. If I had been there longer, I would almost call it homesickness. Never in my life have I ever felt as though I truly BELONGED (even though I was totally a stranger in a strange land). The few hours I spent at Avebury have affected me more than I can rationalize. They felt like a dream and a lifetime all wrapped into one. Everything vibrated there. The stones felt hot. The air hummed. And the wind whispered… Weetabix. Ok, I got carried away there. My apologies to Jimmi Hendrix.

But seriously, it was a strange time. The day that we went to Avebury, I had gone to Stonehedge, Avebury, the Long Barrow, and I believe also Canterbury. It was a cold day, and I think we had walked over 6 miles that day, totaled up. That night, I was completely wired. I felt no pain. We went to a bar and an Oriental restaurant. I stayed up way past my bed time. I was walking faster than the fast people. I was glowing. Truly, truly glowing. People, I realize how sappy I sound, but I can’t help it.

And now, with the appearance of lilacs on my tree in the front yard, comes the intense longing for lilting accents and rounded landscapes. There are no straight lines in England. Flying over the US, you see for miles, straight straight lines dissecting the countryside. Coming down into England, everything was rounded, natural and flowing. Very organic. I can see why UFO’s like to make crop circles there!

It doesn’t help that I’ve been chatting with a chap in Ireland, who’s got the most heavenly voice and accent. I wonder if they realize how hot they are when they speak? It reminds me of how harsh my own accent is. It reminds me of my last week in England when my interior mind-voice began to think in a soft Anglic accent. Vowels began to loose their edge and words began forming in a round, natural way. Everything slowed down. I miss that English Weetabix-brain voice.

The Key West trip simply has opened things up for me. I had shut the door to travel for so long. Do you realize that I was on the plane to England and I still did not totally believe I was going there. I did not believe it until I woke up the next morning, after spending the previous day in London, and I was still in England. When I went to Key West, I was back in the carefree mindset which I had embodied back in 1997 on the Isle. It’s addicting. Landing in a plane is addicting. The pseudo-tiredness of travel is exciting.

And what kills me is that I COULD GO if I chose to. There are fare deals all over. $718 dollars round trip from Green Bay to Dublin or London. Even cheaper to Rome, if I so chose. I could pack up and take off. It’s so easy since I’ve already got a passport (but I’d have to find it of course!).

Instead, I’m feeling trapped by the fact that Esteban would most likely object and also I’d have to finagle some vacation out of nowhere.Plus, I’d want to buy the new camera lens before I went so I could take 200 rolls of pictures. So now it’s over $1000 and I haven’t even packed or gotten off the ground! Then there’s a place to stay and food and actually doing fun things! Yikes.

Guess I’ll just wait until the “Anglo-sickness” passes!

Plight of the underpaid worker

First of all, the plight of the underpaid worker:

For lunch, I went to Taco Bell. I didn’t go to the one a quarter of a mile away from work, though because I knew that they are dirty and horrible there. Instead, I went to a “cleaner and newer” Taco Bell about ten minutes away from work. It was a beautiful day.

There were about six cars in the drive through, not a breeze through, but not out of the question either. I happened to have a newspaper in the car and it was absolutely gorgeous out, so I rolled down the Monte’s windows and kicked back and waited. It took about five minutes to get to the menu/speaker. I ordered a “STUFT” burrito, a gordita, and an extra large Diet Pepsi. The girl on the speaker says “Is that all?” I say “Yes, thanks”. Then she loudly and in an irritated tone of voice says “IS THAT ALL?” and I say louder “YES!” Ok, proceed to the pickup window with cash in hand! If only it was that easy.

It took a mere 20 minutes for me to drive the 45 feet from the speaker to the window. When I get to the window, it took 5 minutes for the girl behind the counter to acknowledge me, but like I said, I had my newspaper, the weather was fab and I was happy.

She comes to the window and I had her a twenty. She then goes through each and every bag of food on the counter four times each before she determines which one holds my gordita and “Stuft” burrito. Then she laboriously makes my change, and hands it to me. Again to disappear. Finally she returns again.

“We’re out of the Extra large cups” she says finally.

“Ok” I say, completely flexible.

She stands there staring at me. I think she thinks that we’re done now and I should leave.

“Well, so what are we going to do about it?” I was really more prompting her to do something.

“WELL WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?” she says, with a sneer. I’m not sure if she thinks I expected her to materialize the cups from nothing.

I just wanted her to get me a soda, I didn’t care, but truthfully, I had paid for an extra large soda, so it was reasonable to expect that the difference be refunded. I didn’t think this totally through, though, because if I had I would have realized that the two cup sizes were only 10 cents difference.

“Well, you could get me a large pepsi and then refund me the dif-” Too late, she had left the window and went to the back of the store. Probably to get her manager to open the register, I think. That’s when I do the math and realize that there was only about 10 cents difference between sizes. I try to flag someone down to tell them that it’s not a big deal, just give me the large diet soda.

Then I see the girl, outside, crossing the drive thru lane, taking off her hat.

She sees me looking at her and GIVES ME THE BIRD!!!!!

I’m shocked. I’m aghast. Truly, my tone of voice had been extremely pleasant. I was not upset about what had now been more than a 30 minute wait in the drive thru. I had only suggested that she give me a different size drink instead of the extra large one I had already paid for.

I look in the window and I see another Taco Bell guy putting on the “drive thru” gear of weight-belty thing and head set.

He comes to the window and says “Let’s see, you had the Stuft Burrito and the gordita?”

“Yes,” I say, ” but I already have my food and change back. I just need my soda.”

“We’re out of extra large cups.”

“I know, just give me a large diet pepsi.”

“Uh, ok.”

“What just happened with the other girl?” I ask.

“Uh, she just quit.”

I’m stunned. “I figured something must have happened, since she just flipped me off.” I say, expecting him to say something else.

“Uh, oh. Ok, here’s your soda.”

So that’s the quality that is Taco Bell. I refuse to feel guilty about this. I mean, if I had actually been a bitch, I would be wearing this incident like a badge of honor. “Watch out for me, babe, I’ve already caused a Taco Bell girl to quit and I can take you out too!”. But this was completely unexpected and somehow I’m a scapegoat.

On a lighter side, the wall in my department is coming down, or is actually mostly down as I write this. Yesterday, we wrote graffiti on the wall with PERMANENT MARKER! It was exciting. I’m just a four year old in a 29 11/12 year old’s body!

Now if only they could do something about the glass ceiling.

Dead fish and Big Dogs

Ok, the new desk fish: dead. It was extremely gross too, grosser than the first desk fish’s untimely demise. This one started losing it’s tail. Not just losing it, it was disintegrating off of him and floating in bits around in the water. So I took him home, cleaned out his container and put him in a new one, where he proceeded to gasp for air and lose more and more of his tail. He’d sit there in a dead fish float (like a dead man’s float, but fishy) and when I’d move the container, he’d move so I couldn’t flush him. After 24 hours of watching him die, I think he died and I asked Esteban to take care of it. Then, get this, Esteban puts him down the garbage disposal! Eeek! I ran outside so I couldn’t hear the grinding. But in reality, it was more humane than flushing, because if it wasn’t dead, just “mostly dead” (ala Princess Bride), it would have had a gruesome end in the sewer pipes, what with all that poop and stuff.

Esteban is back from L.A. and will be leaving for Las Vegas this weekend. Yep, a week. He’s home a week and then he’s gone. I think this month he will be only home like 9 days. Suckage. However, when he is gone, I feel a bit like my parents have left me alone and I have the house to do whatever I want. Like I could have a big kegger party or something. It’s that type of freedom. I can’t describe it. It’s not like I don’t like him being home, I’m happy when he’s home, but then when he’s gone I go through a sad period and then it’s all “Hey, let’s party!”. I can go to the grocery store and eat deli food for dinner. I can come home late. I don’t have a rolly person sleeping next to me, so I sleep so much better, plus have the whole bed to myself. Plus, significantly less laundry. You’d think I’d only have half as much laundry, but seriously, it’s like a quarter of the laundry. I think my clothes take up less room, with the natural fabrics and stuff. And I always have socks. No serendipitously stolen socks from my drawer. Socks Ahoy!!! Woohoo!

The weather is fabulous right now. It reminds me of Key West, since that’s the last time I was in splendid weather like this. I have the urge to go swim in salt water or sit by the water and drink really strong Pina Coladas.

Speaking of drinking: we had our company award’s banquet on Friday. Stacie did my hair the absolute cutest way: sort of Meg Ryany and all that. Very cute. I felt like a hottie. Then I went and bought a new dress from the Egg shop. They have mostly old ladies clothes, and I seriously expected that I wouldn’t want to keep the dress, that I’d get home and put it on and hate it and wear something else, but I didn’t. It was tres’ cute. I wore a dog collary thing and put rhinestones in my cute ‘do. I was quite a hottie. Many compliments from everyone at the banquet. I was a little freaked though because the dress had major leg showing up the sides. All the way up my thigh. I never really thought about it, but I am actually quite sedate in my clothing choices. I tend to stay toward neutral non-scary clothing. I think I don’t want to be sexual at all. But for some reason, it was ok with this dress. I felt a little uneasy with the “leg cleavage” showing but I got over that with many Blind Russians. Ok, not the best way, but it worked.

The LIST!

Boys, boys, boys.

The question has come up: if you could sleep with anyone without guilt or repercussions, who would it be. The girls and I have limited it to famous people so that it wouldn’t be weird, but this brings up an interesting question. Who would you sleep with? Who trips your trigger? It has to be limited to five guys.

My personal list was a soul searching event and I learned a lot about the nature of sexual attraction. Every guy on my list is a guy who I could like personally, guys who show a tender side. Intelligence scored high. There are no Arnold Schwazeneggers or Jean Claude Van Dammes on this list, nor on the lists of my friends. The closest thing to that is one girl who listed “The Rock”, who is a strong manly man, but he does a lot of work with children charities and is considered “a good guy”, so this ostensibly could be a sensitive side to him.

In the polls of my friends, the most popular names which appeared were: George Clooney, Mel Gibson, Sean Connery (yes, the 72 year old man!), Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, and Kevin Costner. All very manly and all have shown sensitivity in their movies. However, some strange entries appeared, such as the aforementioned Rock, Alan Jackson, and Danny Zucco (the fictional character portrayed by John Travolta in Grease). While fictional characters are, in my opinion, as waste of list-space, the idea is interesting. Has the unlimited search for a woman’s perfect five men been so limited that we are now forced to pick from non-existant men? Can only authors give us what we want?

I had a hard time narrowing it down to the final five. I, for example, have the hots for Johnny Knoxville, of MTV’s Jackass. He’s reckless, sexy, and likes to laugh at his friends getting hurt. I find him incredibly sexy in this Bad Boy sort of way. Plus, he’s the only guy I’ve ever seen make those motorcycle-cop sunglasses look good. Everyone else either looks like Erik Estrada from CHiPs or a member of the Villiage People. I also have a slight thing for Penn Jillette, of Penn and Teller. Again, a Bad Boy thing, I think. Plus, the thing with the red fingernail. Why red? Why only one nail? And he’s gigantic. I have a need to be smaller than the man I am with. We don’t need Freud to figure that one out, do we?

Another “bad boy”: Chris Sarandon about 20 years ago. In “Fright Night” he oozed sensuality. That character was so elegant and slick… he could bite my neck any day. Now, however, the years have not been kind and he bears an uncanny resemblance to Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Um, pass.

Then there’s Patrick Stewart, who plays Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Sexy. Strong. Aquiline nose. Bald. Yum. Older man, yes, but with an incredible accent and a yummy bod.

Aidian Quinn. I have found him sexy since he played “Dez” in “Desparately Seeking Susan”. Why did Rosanna Arquette get all the men? First the song “Rosanna” was written about her when she dated the guy from Toto. Then the song “In Your Eyes” was written about her when she dated Peter Gabriel. Then she gets to romp with him. Seriously, though, check out Aidian in “Legends of the Fall”. Honey Biscuit.

Tom Hulce was so sexy as Mozart. I’m hot for men in white wigs and tights. I am only hot for him in this movie though.

Ralph Fiennes. Raif. Gotta love a guy whose name is Ralph and he has the balls to say in an immaculate English accent, no less, “Um, well, no, my name is actually Raif”. He plays a prick so well. He’s not a nice person in English Patient. Neither of them are, actually. They are both horrible people to everyone around them. But he’s irresistable. He’d have made the top five but he played such a detestable Nazi in “Schindler’s List”.

I also could see doing the mambo with Ralph’s little brother, Joseph.

For something completely different: Ed Norton. “I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise”. He loses points for jumping on Roller Girl’s bod, but still, I love a man who makes me think.

I ran into trouble actually narrowing things down. I could come up with many men I could do the horizontal with, but not any that I wanted to “waste” a top five spot with. There were several top 10s or top 20s. The men listed above made the top twenty somehow, however I didn’t rank them. That would be the logical equivalent of laminating the card.

Fictional characters scored high with me also: specifically Daniel Day-Lewis’ Hawkeye in “Last of the Mohicans”. Nothing makes a girl more ready to romp than his “I will find you. No matter what occurs. I will find you.” speech. Plus, he was wet when he delivered it. Wearing buckskin. But I have a hard time wasting a spot with something that is not possible. (Not that it’s possible that Esteban would allow me to get groiny with a famous guy, just because I listed him on my imaginary list)

So, here’s the list, in no particular order:

Russell Crowe: The man drips sex. Doesn’t matter if he’s playing a cowboy, a gladiator, a neo-nazi, or an overweight balding corporate squealer. That Aussie’s got a touch exterior and what has to be a heart of a teddy bear. His voice is growly and his eyes go on and on. His bod is true and real world. Heeessshh!

Brendan Fraser: Had the hots for him since “With Honors”. I sat through “Bedazzled” people, that’s how sad it has gotten. “George of the Jungle” just clinched it. Again with the loin cloth.

Sting: This one is voice alone, as he has aged a little too much since the days of “Dune” and “The Bride”. Still, when I saw him in concert last summer, he was sporting a chubby. I’m sure that he sensed me in the audience. Esteban might have to worry about this one.

Goran Vsijnc (Luka on ER): Love him. Love his cro-magnon essence. Love his Serbo-Croatian accent. Love his uni-brow. He always looks dark and brooding. He is occupying the spot that Robert Smith of the Cure would have had if he wasn’t so femmy.

Last but not least: Antonio Banderas. I had a dream about him once and he picked me over Madonna. I’ve had a soft spot for him ever since, because he clearly recognizes quality over glitz. Plus, he was a hottie in long hair in “Interview with a Vampire”. And then there’s the accent. So that’s it. Who’s on YOUR list?
